Irrigation tips

Spring start-up

Turning system back on - to start your sprinkler system back up for further use or in the spring follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Close all spigots. Usually one inside by ball valve (water shut-off), and 1 or 2 outside by zone valves.

  • Step 2: Slowly open the ball valve (water shut-off) so handle is parallel with pipe. This is usually in the basement by the water meter (remember to do it slowly).

  • Step 3: Run through all the zones with the time clock, while doing this, walk around and check each zone, making sure all sprinkler heads are working properly.

  • Step 4: If there happens to be something wrong or not working properly, please give us a call and we can repair or replace what is needed.

Fall shut down

Drain your sprinkler system for nights of temperatures below freezing. This will keep

pipes above ground from freezing overnight or until winterized. When you are

completely done watering for the year, follow these steps, and then we recommend that

you call us to winterize your system completely.

  • Step 1: Shut the main water off for the sprinkler system. This is usually in the basement by the water meter. The ball valve (water shut-off) handle should be perpendicular to the pipe.

  • Step 2: Open spigot. Usually one inside by ball valve (water shut-off) and 1 or 2 outside by the zone valves.

  • Step 3: Run through all the zones with the time clock with five minutes on each zone (remember the water is off, so there shouldn't be any water running). If your system has a well or pump, be sure its power source is off.

  • Step 4: Close spigot inside until winterization is completed. Then spigot should be reopened until springtime
